Canon Ef Canon EF 11-24mm f4L USM Lens
Canon Ef Canon EF 11-24mm f4L USM Lens
- L-series ultra-wide zoom lens with an impressive 11mm starting focal length
- New optical design and the use of one Super UD element and one UD lens element
- Subwavelength Coating (SWC) and Air Sphere Coating (ASC)
- Inner focusing, ring USM, a high-speed CPU and optimized AF algorithms
- Full-time manual focus allows manual focus adjustment while in AF Mode
This lens is something remarkable, with just as
remarkable of a price tag. If you're on a Full Frame canon camera and
really do want ULTRA wide, then this is the cream of the crop. If you
have a cropped sensor camera, this lens won't make sense for you, look
at the tokina 11-16mm, unless you really do plan on migrating to full
frame in the future.
Before i jump into the breakdown, consider if you truly need this wide. 11mm is around 125 degrees. That's comparable to a Gopro in its medium field of view setting. It's WIDE. A great tool for comparing focal lengths and sensor sizes is Abel's FOV calculator, just google that and it will come up. On with the thoughts:
-Built like a beast, solid as can be
-Focus and zoom rings are smooth with no slop
-Distortions are surprisingly well controlled, even at 11mm lines stay pretty strait, but expected UWA elongations will occur
-Chromatic Aberrations also appear well controlled
-Vignetting (darker near the corners) is definitely present, but easily fixed in editing.
-Sharpness is excellent, even wide open, even the corners perform well overall
-F/4 won't be the speediest, but consider that the newer FF cameras easily compensate for this in clean high iso.
-No front filter threads, BUT! a clever slot in the rear of the lens to slide a little filter gel in the back.
-Autofocus feels snappy and accurate.
-Close focus distance of just 11inches.
