The EF-S 10–18mm f/4.5–5.6 IS STM lens combines optical excellence with cutting-edge performance, providing an ultra-wide angle of view in a compact, portable package, perfect for EOS cameras with an APS-C sensor. It has a 4 group optical zoom system and includes a large-diameter element, an aspherical lens element, a UD lens element and enhanced lens coatings for high-contrast, high-resolution images with minimal glare and aberration. A circular, 7-blade aperture helps ensure fine background blur and the Canon Optical Image Stabilizer system provides up to four equivalent stops of shake correction. The lens has a stepping motor (STM) and a refined focus mechanism for smooth and continuous AF during video recording. It also has a rear focusing system, plus a high speed CPU and improved AF algorithm for high-speed AF; and offers full-time manual focus for quick adjustments. The EF-S 10–18mm f/4.5–5.6 IS STM delivers reliable, speedy and quiet wide-angle performance, making it an ideal lens for everyday photography, travel, stills and video recording.

Before going into the details of my review, I'd like to start off by saying...if you have the money on hand, you should immediately buy this lens. I am extremely pleased so far - this is a lightweight, yet solidly built, and extremely affordable performer. While two hundred bucks doesn't seem "affordable" at first, it delivers very solid results that you could expect from lenses that cost several times as much.

This lens is something remarkable, with just as remarkable of a price tag. If you're on a Full Frame canon camera and really do want ULTRA wide, then this is the cream of the crop. If you have a cropped sensor camera, this lens won't make sense for you, look at the tokina 11-16mm, unless you really do plan on migrating to full frame in the future.

Before i jump into the breakdown, consider if you truly need this wide. 11mm is around 125 degrees. That's comparable to a Gopro in its medium field of view setting. It's WIDE. A great tool for comparing focal lengths and sensor sizes is Abel's FOV calculator, just google that and it will come up. On with the thoughts:

-Built like a beast, solid as can be
-Focus and zoom rings are smooth with no slop
-Distortions are surprisingly well controlled, even at 11mm lines stay pretty strait, but expected UWA elongations will occur
-Chromatic Aberrations also appear well controlled
-Vignetting (darker near the corners) is definitely present, but easily fixed in editing.
-Sharpness is excellent, even wide open, even the corners perform well overall
-F/4 won't be the speediest, but consider that the newer FF cameras easily compensate for this in clean high iso.
-No front filter threads, BUT! a clever slot in the rear of the lens to slide a little filter gel in the back.
-Autofocus feels snappy and accurate.
-Close focus distance of just 11inches.

B.I.W. (BEST IN THE WORLD)
Lets start there. This is probably the greatest lens I've ever used... challenged only by the Canon 70-200mm L IS II. It is unbelievably sharp throughout the zoom range. I've taken shots that would rival the most expensive primes. Focusing is almost instantaneous. You target it, and it focuses... Don't blink. The build is solid and strong. It is not nearly as heavy though as the previous model which seemed to be more of a metal body. In addition to being lighter, this lens is also shorter making it easier to travel with and more fun to shoot with. This EF lens features a zoom lock which prevents the barrel from zooming out while hanging from the neckstrap and also has full-time manual focusing (like most Canon lenses).

SCARLETT JOHANSSON HAS BAD PENMANSHIP
A few things I didn't love... The lens diameter is 82mm which I HATE actually. The previous version of this lens was 77mm. This change forces you to purchase new filters (if you use filters). 82mm filters are a bit more expensive than the smaller ones. I'm going to assume there was a functional reason for this change and not that this was an attempt by Canon to jumpstart the economy. The other thing is the lens hood. The newer lenses seem to come with a hood lock. No fun and uneccesary. I can't remember my hood ever falling off accidentally. Anyway, those are small gripes. Canon has done what some thought impossible...they've improved on the legendary 24-70. It costs an arm and a leg, but definitely worth saving appendages here and there for a big purchase at the end of the year.

Five stars for its value and features. Much better than I expected. Considerably improved over previous versions. Internal focus(front element doesn't turn), practically silent focusing(even quieter than my 40mm STM), manual focus without flipping a switch(with shutter button pressed halfway), very good image quality for a budget general purpose lens. Haven't had it very long yet but plan on using it a lot. It's so small and light it's easy to carry around all day on my Canon 60D. The best is still the 17-55 2.8IS but it weighs a ton in comparison. I'm very happy with it.

Canon Ef Canon EF 50mm f 1.8 II Camera Lens

Canon Ef Canon EF 50mm f 1.8 II Camera Lens

Canon Ef Canon EF 50mm f 1.8 II Camera Lens

Once upon a time the 50 mm lens was THE standard camera lens and was THE optical benchmark by which manufacturers were judged and compared. Although the basic lens focus has now shifted (at least at the low to mid amateur level) to zooms - you can still benefit from years of research and development that went into designing the 50 mm lens and this here lens may be the best lens, dollar for dollar, that you can ever buy. The question is can you afford not to own this lens?

Years of development have brought us a lens that has a fast aperture of 1.8 - far faster than any consumer zoom lens - and that is sharp as a filed tack. Be forewarned about the sharpness . . . if you are taking pictures of people, this lens is unyielding in its sharpness and may well surprise you and your subjects whose every blemish is captured. The lens has a fabulously shallow depth of field if you want to use the 1.8 aperture to blow out a background. This lens is also ridiculously inexpensive. It is not USM - so it is a little loud. It does not have a moving focus scale. For the money though - this is heaven.
